My 460 swapped 90 Notchback buildup
« on: March 04, 2007, 09:30:05 PM »

This has been a on going project for me over the past 2 years or so now.(in the mean time of building everyone else stuff)I found it on racingjunk a few years ago, and have decided to keep this one because of how clean it is.It had 73-79 460 ci 8.5 to 1 cam headers intake roller rockers and some other stuff (but still not what i was told it had in it). All lakewood suspension, all new wheels and tires, etc.I got it home and rewired it front to rear. car ran great and had lots of teething issues along the way.

here some pics of it with ps,pb,pw.after i got done rewiring it and redoing some other things.

Cars best in that state was 10.48 at 129 on a 225 shot with a 1.71 60'. after that i had some trans issues and then the motor broke...a few times. Pissed!
ended up putting a different motor in it last year with some mixxed results.

this one went 11.16 @ 125 N/a with a 2.0 60'with the tranny slipping badly on the big end(1/8 mile was 111-112mph) Shocked
so now over this winter im mini-tubbing her and upgrading the rest of the driveline to hold this thing on the bottle and/or maybe some turbos down the road.

mock up on the mini-tubb

i will be notching the frame rails for more tire, those are 29.5 x 10.5 Ws on a 12" rim.

before k member spacers

after spacers

pic of the coilover and 9" 35 spline axles, baselines offset lowers, upr pro series uppers. box's braced

ill be adding and editing as i go..lol
plus updating as i go with the mini tubb and other mods i have planned.cage, full roller c-6 ans so on.

notched the frame rails, put some 15x10 weld with a 7 1/2 backspace, with 30 x 10.5 radial slcik on them. set it down too check fit.
ill be running different wheels when im done.

started pulling the motor and what not out to start installing thru the floor connecters, and the cage. rebuild or replace my trans. lots of work left..

i have 1 1/2 spacers under mine. bob of big block fox is making them out of steal and aluminum. since none of the suspension companys want too drop the motor mounts in there drop k members.(You dont want too drop the motor)you sure dont if you have a sb. Wink

i think you can use a certain rearsump truck/van pan...its just like the motorsport swap pan. but if you want it too live i suggest using a quaility pan. i have the canton.

nope no firewall mods, unless you move it real far back.

lots of room for turbos. just have too mount them up front or in the fenders.

finally made some progress.
tacked some  plates in the rear for my cross bar

got both frame rails notched for tire clearance

got the subframe connecters trimmed and fitted and tacked in

this is basiclly what the car looks like sitting in the garage. it makes me sad.

heres the mess from the other end.

hopefully ill be welding the connectors in the rest of the way, fitting my out riggers and i can finally start fitting the cage and stuff in.
right now , time is not my friend.

looking more like a cage. got the front out riggers started, still have too trim the bottoms off.

top side

a piller

roof bar

its all tacked in place right now. next is remove the dash, install the dash bar and weld up the joints better then drop it down out of the floor and weld the tops up real good then put it back up in the car and weld it in soild and start fitting the rest of the bars in, im going too replace the head liner and put the upper interior pieces back in before it goes back up in the car...
