Choosing a turbo for low end power- Upgrading my remote mount....
« on: December 01, 2006, 03:51:19 PM »

I am looking to upgrade my turbo before I have my truck tuned for 6psi. My current 57trim TO4E gets the job done, but is WAY out of its efficiency range. SO I was looking at a T70, but it looks like it will be too big for my setup based on the map. Here is the map...

My pressure ratio will be at roughly 1.38, and I figure a max of about 32lbs a minute at 5.8psi/.4bar.  What would be a good copressor that will give me more low and midrange power? This is a SUV so I am not worried about top end power.

The second map is of a T61, which looks like it will be more efficient in my setup. Also included is my 57 trim and a 60.

I guess what I am wanting to know is- Where on the map should I be for more low/mid power but still be able to rev it to 5500ish.

Also, I am considering the eBay Super T70 with T3 flanged .84 hotside- I have been told it is close to the map of a T61. No, I dont want to hear everyone tell me what garbage they are, I have seen and heard all the same crap on the internet you have Wink I know of people using them with good results. SO not looking at the quality, or lack of, what do you think about this compressor? When I look up the compressor map for it, it shows a T70 map, which I know is wrong.

thats what id/did use on my first setup, talk about low-end!!! that thing would come up to 9psi by 2300-2400rpm, sounds like exacly what youre needing, if youre vehicle is automatic and heavy(like an explorer) it will come up instantly!!  for $300 its worth the experiment, if you dont like it ill buy it from you, i need another one for another project!

Another question...

.68AR P trim vs. .82AR Stage 3 wheel.. how do these compare flow wise? Dont care about the compressor at the moment, just the turbine...

.68 P-trim is MUCH bigger. A T4/60-1 is a great street turbo for a 5.0, 0.81 with a P-trim.

I didnt think there would that much difference- the Ptrim .68 housings I have seen drop drastically in size after the flange and there isnt much difference in the size of the wheels on paper- but I guess measurements of inducer/exducer dont tell the whole story- because on paper a Stage 5 T3 wheel looks almost as good as a Q-trim Smiley .

Now I just need to find a 60-1, t61, or MP t70 with a small hot housing....
