First timeslip , stock block, 10's on 8psi
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:12:23 PM »

I'm finally starting my project. I have removed the entire front end of the car and the only thing I have to start with is a set of bbk shorties. Any suggestions to the best approach will be greatly appreciated. I already ordered a couple of bends and oil filter relocation kit. I tried reversing the headers and I quickly found out that the oil filter is in the way of the header. So on day one, my first wake up call. Thanks

eh, use a remote filter and then find the next issue that keeps you from using the header like that so you can call yourself stupid for buying the filter relocation kit

Are you going twin or single? I assume you are planning a single turbo since your headers are facing down. Keep us posted on the build!

Damn, I asked for help and the first thing I get is someone calling me stupid. Anyways, I think the relocation of the filter is more positive than negative, so I'm still going to use it. My plans is for a single ball bearing t66 from turbonetics. I was running a Vortech at 12psi, I ran a best of 11:07 at 126mph. I'm hoping that a turbo will put me in the 10s. I pretty much have a good set up already, I have a the necessary parts to work with a turbo, but just wanted to build it myself. I take pride in working on my own car. I'm going to face them the headers up to see what they look like. I'm just undecided as to which side to place the turbo. Here is what it looked like with the blower.

Since your are doing a single i would leave the headers facing down.  I put mine on the passenger side, it made things a bit easier to work on.  If you plan on keeping your A/C, power steering and all i would leave that stuff on there and  fab around it, it is harder that way but then you know everything will clear when you bolt it up.  There are some good examples on the site to get ideas from. Here is a pic when i was in the middle of fabing mine up.

Hey, thanks for the pic, I like the idea, nice fabrication going on. I hope I can weld that good when the time comes. But it looks like your not using an intercooler. Am I right? Is an intercooler necessary?

I had to knock off the flange on the drivers header and reweld on a different angle because it was hitting the relocation kit hose.

Here is the mock up of the hot side, I still have to clean the welds and send to get powder coated. I'm going to wait for the turbo and wastegate  before I do that. If your wondering why I didn't come straight from the passenger side right under the damper and into the u-bend, is because I tried that and I quickly ran into clearance problems with the lower radiator hose. Lucky for me that my old H-Pipe had the perfect bend to solve that. I just have to grind down a piece of the hanger as you can see in the pic.

I just got a few parts in, so finally I can get back to work. Here is a picture of the intercooler mounted, I had to remove some of the drivers side bumper support mount to clear the outlet. I also had to trim out some of the bumper support itself to clear mounting. Tomorrow I'll be mounting the turbo (62-1) and posting more pics.
