Future plans:
Shane is currently working on tuning and unbinding the
suspension, getting the converter tightened so it stalls to 4500 like it should,
and adding a fuel cell so he can up the boost from 12psi to 15-17psi. He
plans to be ready for World Ford Challenge True Street in 2003.
Background:
I flew to Arizona and bought the car in November of
2000. I drove it back to Nebraska and it was snowing as I pulled into town
which really sucked since the car had 4.10's and performance tires on it.
I pulled the interior out right away and spent the winter putting in Wolfe
through the floor subframe connectors, chromoly 10 point cage, and rear
suspension. For the summer of 2001 the car still had the stock 302 with a
few minor bolt ons, the FAST system, and an NOS 5115 kit. It ran a best of
13.2 @ 108 on street radials with an AODE. During the fall and early
winter of 2001 I built the 383 that's in the car now, put in the
tubular k-member and adjustable shocks and struts. In the spring of
2002 I built the headers and everything for the turbo install, but put a 2.5"
piece of pipe in place of the turbo so I could get used to driving the new setup
on the motor. The car ran a best of 11.52 @ 117 and won the 2002 PRO
Edelbrock Open Comp Class in Cordova Illinois. In August of 2002, I
finally finished the turbo and intercooler install and the car made 620rwhp at
12psi of boost on the local mustang dyno. The best time to date is a 9.79
@ 140 with a 1.55 sixty foot. The converter is still too loose, so I spend
the last 1.5 - 2 seconds of the run on the rev limiter. Once the converter
and suspension bugs are worked out of it, I'm hoping for a 9.50 @ 145 or so at
12psi of boost.
