Background:
I
purchased this car from a guy out of California for $4000 with a ton of parts
on it including a T-trim Vortech. The car was a GT when i bought it and I
had it shipped to Woodstock, Ga. I tore the car down and sold off most
of the parts I didnt want and traded other parts for stuff Ineeded. I came
across a guy who had a Dart block that needed a sleeve and purchased it for
$500 and thus began a long journey of upgrades for better parts! The car was
completley repainted the factory black and a Saleen body kit installed. The
car came with the cobra 5 lug disc brake conversion so i hunted and hunted
and hunted until i found the factory Stern Saleen wheels which i picked up
for $1000 plus my 99 cobra rims as trade. When it came time to build the motor
i could bring myself to put stock internals in a Dart block so i called a
local engine builder named Steve Petty to build a 331 stroker for me. After
he inspected the block and sleeved it he let me know it would be cheaper to
build a 347 based engine that was .080 than a 331 as .080 pistons for a 331
are not the norm. So i ended up with a 358cid short block that i decided would
need a serious cylinder head so i found a used set of stage 3 foxlake ported
Victor Jr's. At this time all the factory electronics have been scrapped in
favor of a F.A.S.T. with a set of 55# injectors. I then added the Vortech
T-tim with 12 psi of boost the car made 555rwhp and 510lbs of torque. Most
would be satisfied there but i have been through several blower cars and i
was bored with it quick. I Have a local guy around here named Barry, the same
Barry that is on this board and I loved his blue hatch and he talked me into
a turbo setup! I sold the Vortech setup and put a little more money with it
and contacted Ponydown's Jeff Carrol in his infant stages and got his first
stage 3 kit for a song and a dance and found a Precision T-76gts on e-bay
for $980.00. My total turbo kit investment ended up being $3600 and for that
i was rewarded with 702rwhp and 739lbs of torque on 93 octane pump gas at
14psi of boost!!! The car is much more streetable until the boost comes on
and then it pulls like crazy!
